How to prep artwork for 3D puff cap embroidery
Most puff problems are artwork problems: strokes too thin, text too small, too many separate parts. Battle Born Clothing fixes what we can at digitizing and shows you the result on the proof. Here is what to send so the first proof is the last one.
Files we want
- Vector: AI, EPS, PDF or SVG with text converted to outlines
- If no vector exists: a PNG at 300 dpi or larger, on a transparent or plain background
- PMS or thread color references if you have them
Minimum sizes for puff
| Element | Minimum | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Letter height | About 0.4 in | Below this the foam cannot be cleanly covered |
| Stroke width | About 0.12 in | Thinner strokes cut the foam without lifting |
| Gap between puffed shapes | About 0.08 in | Foam between them tears |
| Total front width | About 4.5 in max | Cap frame limit on structured crowns |
| Total front height | About 2.25 in max | Front panel height on a mid-profile crown |
What to simplify before you send
- Drop gradients and shadows; puff is one flat color per shape
- Merge letters that touch into one outline
- Remove thin outlines around letters, or plan to stitch them flat
- Pick one or two colors
What we change at digitizing
We may widen strokes slightly, open tight counters in letters like 'e' and 'a', and move small text to flat stitching. Each change is marked on the proof. If you want it stitched exactly as drawn, say so and we will tell you what will not work.
Fees
One $18.99 digitizing fee per logo covers the puff and flat elements together. Puff production is quoted per design; flat embroidery follows the tier table.
Questions
Can you redraw a low-resolution logo?
Usually yes for simple marks; we quote the redraw with the job. Complex logos may need the original vector.
Can the puff and flat parts be different colors?
Yes. Each shape gets its own thread color.
Do you send a stitched sample?
A digital proof is included. A physical sample cap is priced at the 12-23 tier plus the blank.
